Astronomical society ‘Ruđer Bošković’

Astronomical Society ‘Ruđer Bošković’ is among the oldest astronomical societies in Europe and the oldest one in the Balkans. Founded in 1934 by a group of students, the Society had only a few members, but today it gathers more than 700 astronomy lovers. Their main aim is the popularization of astronomy. To accomplish this, the Society founded a Public Observatory in 1964, which is still placed in the adapted Despot's Tower at the Kalemegdan Fortress, Belgrade. The Belgrade Planetarium is located in a former Turkish bath, in the lower part of the Kalemegdan Fortress (under the Ružica Church and St. Petka’s Chapel) since 1970. Astronomical Society " Ruđer Bošković" publishes a popular science magazine called "Vasiona" since 1953.
