6th Mass Extinction

Many species do not exist anymore and survival of even more of them is endangered by direct or indirect human activities. During its history, the Earth has passed through five cycles of mass extinction in which many species of flora and fauna have disappeared. On the other hand, these cycles enabled expansion and evolution of even larger number of other species. Nowadays, we are dumb witnesses of the sixth mass extinction. Huge number of species has already disappeared but no new ones came out. We know the cause, we know the consequences. What can we do?
